Alexander Woods Biography
Alexander Woods is a dynamic and versatile violinist, baroque violinist, and violist praised by The New York Times for his “showstopping” and “deft and sensitive” playing. He performs internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader, collaborating with ensembles such as New York Baroque Incorporated, Talea Ensemble, Orchestra at St. Luke’s, and the Utah Symphony. His performances have graced major festivals and venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Mostly Mozart Festival, and international stages across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

An Associate Professor of Violin at Brigham Young University, Alex is also founder of the BYU Baroque Ensemble and a member of the Deseret String Quartet. He is a passionate advocate for both historical and contemporary music, with acclaimed recordings on MSR Classics, Acis, and Tzadik labels, and has premiered works by John Adams, Alvin Lucier, and others. He frequently performs with his wife, violinist Aubrey Woods, and has appeared in recitals nationwide with his father, pianist Rex Woods. Alex studied at Yale, the Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Arizona.
